Victoria is delighted to announce that Jennifer Collier will be visiting the Little House of Victoria studio for a beautiful workshop of stitch and paper.
Paper Bird Box: Saturday 1st March, 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
In this one day workshop you will be working with artist and tutor, Jennifer Collier, to create a beautiful bespoke bird box, complete with its own bird on the perch, created from recycled papers, stitch and card, inspired by Jennifer’s own work. Owner of the gallery,
Unit Twelve, paper pioneer Jennifer Collier creates exquisite sculptures from vintage recycled materials in conjunction with stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. The papers serve as both the inspiration and the media for the work, with the narrative suggesting the forms. Through this marriage of unlikely materials, old papers are transformed into something truly unique, delicate and complex.
Jennifer completed a BA (hons) in Textiles (Print, Knit and Weave) in 1999 at Manchester Metropolitan University, is internationally exhibited, and has had her work featured in over 100 magazines and 17 books to date.

In this workshop you will be shown every step of the process, from constructing your bird box, to using beautiful, vintage papers to decorate it. This will be embellished with a range of hand stitches, including an optional picot stitched trim around the door. You will also be shown other techniques, such as embossing and paper flowers, and will go on to making your own mono-printed bird to sit on the perch.
All materials and equipment are provided, but you may wish to bring your own special papers, book or maps to personalise your work.
Victoria will also be on hand to provide guidance where needed, the project will be completely hand sewn, and the use of a sewing machine is not necessary for this workshop.
Included in the workshop: • All materials are included for your project, but if there is anything in particular that you would like to use then please bring this along.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, please bring a packed lunch to the studio, there are eateries on site but the opening times are not guaranteed.
Please note the studio is on the 3rd floor with stair access only.
