Victoria is delighted to announce that Emily Notman will be visiting the Little House of Victoria studio for a beautiful textured wall hanging workshop.
In this one day workshop you will be working with artist and tutor, Emily Notman, to create a textural wall hanging with mixed media, inspired by Emily’s own artwork.
Explore Emily’s original wall hanging method, using a variety of mixed media techniques, you will create your own landscape or abstract wall hanging. The workshop begins with experimenting by colouring fabrics & making prints and marks using found objects. Once you have a collection of pieces, Emily will guide you through my process of constructing them into bespoke wall hangings. To finish, you will enhance your piece with textured hand stitch, contemporary couching, and tactile embellishments, adding a unique and personal touch to your wall-hanging.
Emily describes her work as: "As a textile and embroidery artist, my practice explores texture, delicate layers, and intricate surfaces through contemporary hand embroidery and surface techniques. Inspired by the beauty of natural surface such as flaky walls, wild overgrown flower meadows, and whimsical botanical, I am drawn to ethereal hues and soft colours. The use of heavily embellished layers allows me to create tactile, detailed pieces that evoke the essence of spring and the countryside.
Emily's background is in fine art, ceramics, and textiles, and her work merges heavy textures, fine stitching, and subtle painted layers. Emily has a 1st class BA Honours degree specialising in embroidery, printed textiles, ceramics.
All materials will be provided. However, please bring an apron or wear old clothes as we will be using paint. You are more than welcome to bring inspirational photos of landscapes or gardens to help with colour choice, and bring anything else you may want to personalise, such as fabrics, haberdashery, or lace.
Victoria will also be on hand to provide guidance where needed, the project will be completely hand sewn, and the use of a sewing machine is not necessary for this workshop.
Included in the workshop: All materials are included for your project, but if there is anything in particular that you would like to use then please bring this along.
