Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have an obsession with embroidery threads, and it's true. I am also obsessed with finding threads from new suppliers, and I love to imagine the many embroidery projects that you will make with them.
I really do have the best job, which is all down to my lovely customers, and I thank you all so much for that. I have swapped buying furniture and homewares for buying threads, a little known fact is that I used to be a furniture buyer and interior designer, the clues to the textile obsession were all there many years ago.
Anyway, enough about me, let's get back to the threads. There is a thread for every project on my website, and I have really enjoyed sourcing these over the last few months.
Au Ver a Soie pure silk packs from Paris
Wow, what can I say about these? They are simply beautiful, and I have had such lovely feedback on these. These threads are perfect for adding a touch of class to any project, the colours are beautiful. Have you seen the new Pantone 25 pack, it has gorgeous taupe and beige in there.
Au Ver a Soie have been making silk threads in Paris since the early 1800's, so they absolutely know a thing or two about making super high quality threads.
Sashiko threads by Daruma
Here's a thing about sashiko threads ..... they are good for many embroidery projects, and not just for sashiko. So good in fact, that I will be developing a none sashiko kit with the new Daruma threads. They are excellent for hand applique projects and slow stitching. The Daruma threads are fine and very smooth, and they have an understated matte appearance. I have stocked the website with lots of colours, and each card has 40 metres of thread, so you will have plenty for other projects too. This is a good staple thread to have in your stock.
Wonderfil Perle #8 pack by Alison Glass
This designer needs no introduction. Alison Glass makes beautiful quilted projects and has selected these thread colours for Wonderfil. When I first got them, I thought they might be too bright for my projects, but actually they have found their way into so many projects! Top tip for selecting thread colours, when you are selecting thread colours, the colour will look brighter on the bobbin, but it is good to remember that one strand will look more demure on its own, and could provide a beautiful highlight. Perle cottons come in different thicknesses, and Perle 8 is fine, but not too fine, I stock this weight as it is the most versatile.
Luca-S Pearl #8 Cotton
This is my go to Pearl thread, and I don't know why it is called Pearl instead of Perle, but it is exactly the same. These are the ones that I have in big baskets for sale in my studio, and they are very popular. I think this is down to the fact that the colours are beautiful, and there is 80 metres on each bobbin. Also, they have a subtle sheen to them, which provides a stunning addition to any slow stitch projects, which is why I have included them in the slow stitch packs and workshops.
Fine Wool Threads by Au Ver a Soie
Au Ver a Soie do not just make silk threads, they make fine wool threads too. The Fine D'Aubusson wool is a joy to stitch with, it has four dividable strands, with one strand being a little finer than crewel wool. The strands are not twisted and they pull apart very easily, making the thread extremely versatile for all needlework. There is 8 metres of four strand thread in each skein, making a total of 32 metres per skein, they seem to go on forever!
Pure British Wool, 4 ply wool from Saddleworth.
These are my go to wool threads for my wool embroidery kits, as they are super easy to stitch with, and are very forgiving with being so squishy. It is possible to achieve a fine finish, which is surprising when you first look at the wool. Popular kits like Strawberry Sunflower were stitched in this wool. There is one colour option of these wools on the website, but if you would like a custom pack making up, just let me know what your preferred palette is, and I will make that up for you.
